The trick

Every sloped facet is a triangle's long edge held at 45 degrees, so the gem tapers straight from a flat top down to one point.

What you will need

  • 4 square tiles
  • 6 right-angle triangle tiles

Step by step

  1. 1. Lay the top

Lay four squares in a 2 by 2 block for the flat top of the gem.

  2. 2. Widen the shoulders

Add a triangle at each top corner and one on each side so the gem bulges out to its widest line.

  3. 3. Cut the point

Under the block set two triangles that meet in one tip, the bottom of the gem.
