The trick

Swap each corner square for a triangle pointing inward; the triangle's slope trims the sharp corner to the flat bevel a real emerald cut has.

What you will need

  • 11 square tiles
  • 4 right-angle triangle tiles

Step by step

  1. 1. Lay the middle row

Lay a straight row of five squares across the middle.

  2. 2. Build the block

Add three squares along the top and three along the bottom to fill out the rectangle.

  3. 3. Bevel the corners

Put one triangle in each corner, sloped edge facing out, to cut the four bevels.
